Elegant simplicity is presented in this stunning pattern, originally designed by Hester Bateman. Hester took over her family silverware business when her husband died in 1760 and became one of the most prominent silversmiths of the time. This design was inspired by intricate strings of pearls and Bead remains one of the most popular patterns we sell today.
Our process is not too dissimilar to the process Hester would have used, although on a much larger scale. Each piece of silver cutlery is hand crafted in our factory in Sheffield by Carrs very own master silversmiths. Knife blades are made from specially hardened stainless steel which gives a perfectly sharp cutting edge. This means that blades won’t dull as quickly and there is less need for sharpening or refurbishment (both of which we can complete for you at our Sheffield factory.)
Please bear in mind that each set of silver plated cutlery is made to order. Once you place your order, we will begin the production process and will be in touch to let you know an estimated delivery date – this could take up to eight weeks. Although this pattern shares its name with the Maîtresse-en-titre of Louis XV of France, Dubarry is in fact a Victorian British design. Inspired by the free flowing architecture of cabinetry made by famous furniture designer, Thomas Chippendale, this pattern features a fine threaded edging on the handle as well as an elegant curved design. Dubarry is probably most famous however, for being the pattern chosen for the formal dining room on the most luxurious liner of it’s time, the RMS Titanic. We are honoured to be the only large scale cutlery manufacturers to still make Dubarry cutlery in the UK, especially with its rich history and stunning shape.

A classic Victorian pattern, English Reed and Ribbon was first introduced at the height of Queen Victoria’s reign in 1850. English Reed and Ribbon was considered absolute sophistication in Victorian England and is thought to have graced the table at Buckingham Palace during visits from foreign dignitaries and even fellow Royals.
This intricate pattern has a fine thread edging with small pretty ‘ribbon’ bows at regular intervals and a larger bow at the base of the handle. It suits absolutely any aesthetic and any occasion – formal or casual!

The most classic pattern, which is probably most widely recognised as the traditional ‘British cutlery pattern’. With origins dating back to the 1750’s, this stunning pattern is just perfection. We’re incredibly proud to be the only start to finish, large scale cutlery manufacturers in the UK who still manufacture this beautiful pattern.

Harley is often referred to as the ‘modern’ version of parish pattern Grecian, taking it’s inspiration from the softer lines and angular edges of the parish pattern. Although Harley was created in Sheffield in 1930 and Grecian was first manufactured only a year earlier, Harley is less traditional in style and has a unique, modern Art Deco feel. With beautiful threading around the edges and a sleek beveled design around the cutlery and knife handles, Harley is a classic example of 1930’s cutlery design.

Kings was originally created in the 1830’s by John and Henry Lias of London. They were famous for their opulent designs, which often included Rococo decoration, shells and foliate scrolls. Kings is a more simple and elegant version of the more elaborate Queens design and includes honeysuckle flowers and shell motifs. The pattern is more traditional in style and is widely recognised as one of the most fabulous examples of traditional British cutlery design.

La Regence was first manufactured in France the 19th century, but was incredibly popular in Britain in the 1920’s when it became a parish pattern. After being discovered in France, La Regence was manufactured in Britain by William Turner, part of the Nickel Blanks group. Nickel Blanks became a part of the Carrs Silver family in 2009, bringing with them the original tools and dies from the very first manufacture of La Regence cutlery in 1921! Although we have created new tooling to manufacture La Regence, these tools and dies now sit proudly in Carrs archive in our factory in Sheffield.

The Old English cutlery pattern was first seen in England in the 1760’s, during the reign of George III. The design was originally favoured by high society and is still considered one of the most famous Parish cutlery patterns. The appeal was certainly in the fact that the cutlery was easier to hold than some of the earlier patterns, which were beautiful but slightly impractical!
Old English provides an elegant silhouette which inspired our modern cutlery pattern Vision. Old English is stunningly simple yet perfect for any modern or traditional setting. The pattern is incredibly versatile in that it would suit pretty much any formal or informal setting.

The oldest English cutlery pattern, dating back to the 1600’s, Rattail gets its name from the sleek ‘tail’ on the reverse of the spoon bowl. Although methods in manufacturing cutlery have drastically changed since this patterns inception, the ‘tail’ on the reverse of the spoon is indicative of traditional methods where the spoon would have originally been made in two halves and soldered together – creating this distinctive marking.
Although Rattail is one of the oldest patterns of cutlery in existence, the design is simple and elegant and could be used as part of a modern or traditional aesthetic. Plus the rich history behind this pattern serves as quite the dinner party conversation!
